Chester Zoo has been running an inspiring course called Wildlife Champions across Chester, Ellesmere Port, and surrounding areas, aimed at equipping local volunteer groups with the skills to enhance and maintain outdoor spaces for wildlife. This programme is helping to support the delicate ecosystems within Cheshire's waterways and green spaces, ensuring these natural habitats continue to thrive for generations to come.
The training provides valuable insights on how to create habitats for species like hedgehogs, bats, and invertebrates. Participants also learn how to identify signs of invasive species that threaten the balance of local ecosystems.

Two committee members from Stamford Street Allotments recently attended the course to improve their knowledge and confidence. This training will enable them to lead community activities, ensuring that the allotments continue to provide a welcoming environment for wildlife.
If you’re interested in becoming a Wildlife Champion and contributing to the preservation of Cheshire’s natural spaces, you can register your interest through the Chester Zoo website.
