Project update, October 2024 - following recent funding and community engagement, the Allotment has raised a total of £14,625 to fund the Sensory & Community Garden project.
The project, driven by the plot holders and committee members, aims to address the needs of local community groups & spaces, by creating a wheelchair-accessible allotment site and sensory garden, that will serve as a communal hub for a wide range of events & activities in Ellesmere Port.
The Stamford Street Sensory & Community Garden, designed with inclusivity and accessibility, will provide a welcoming space for the local community, colleges and school groups to gather and engage in hands-on learning and recreational activities.
As part of a detailed development plan for the site, the project will focus on key features to ensure accessibility for all, including the installation of wheelchair-friendly paths, the completion of accessible vegetable bed foundations, and the creation of sensory areas such as a pergola, pond, and wildflower garden.
So far, with the help of The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), Golsberg and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, we have managed to complete the majority of the ground works on the allotment.
Some of the students from The Ellesmere Port Catholic High School (EPCHS) have also attended weekly work experience sessions at the allotment to work with the Conservation Volunteers in building the community garden.
The Stamford Street Allotment Society is keen to expand its reach and foster collaboration by involving other local groups and organisations to support our project. If you would like to show interest in using our community garden, please visit:
